Old Church Benicalaf

The Benicalaf temple, in Benavites, and located less than a kilometre east of the town center, has its origin in a rural Moorish farm called Benicalaf. The temple consecrated to the apostle Santiago is the only remaining part of this ancient settlement that in 1856 was annexed to Benavites.
The temple’s rectangular plan consists of a single nave with two side aisles and a chevet. The ceiling includes a half-barrel vault with lunettes, supported by round arches.
At the beginning of the 20th century the temple was deconsecrated, to be turned into a warehouse first and as a cattle barn later.
