Manises, Valencia

El Arte Building

El Arte, built in 1922, stands out for its tilework, painted in gold and cobalt blue on a white background, giving this façade its unique character. The baseboard was made in the singular trencadís style, in keeping with Gaudí's works. The building had a double function: it was a factory, which also occupied the back part of the façade, and the potter's house, which was on the first floor. Today the building houses the MUMAF - Museográfica de Fotografía de Manises Carlos Sanchis Collection of Photography, the Manises Tourist Office and several municipal services. The MUMAF keeps a collection of more than 2,000 cameras, including a number of large format wooden cameras on display in the central part of the building. This collection is amongst the most important in Europe.
